Rye Whiskies
Rye Whiskies are distilled for their flavor from rye distiller's beer - that being either majority-rye or supermajority rye. Rye whiskies of different types exist.
Pennsylvania-style Rye Whiskey is distilled from a majority-rye mash, but with at least 10% malted barley, and no maize.
Monongahela-style Rye Whiskey is distilled from an all-rye mash, but with at least 10% of it being malted rye.
Maryland-style Rye Whiskey is distilled from a majority-rye mash, with at least 10% malted barley, and a fair amount of maize.
Supermajority Rye Whiskey is distilled from a mash of at least 94% rye – with either malted grain, or liquid enzymes, for fermentation.
