The claret goblet is also known as the red wine goblet. It was long the common pre-balloon-shape glassware used for serving and drinking red wine in the tradiitonal portion of 4 fl-oz.
Before the Cocktail goblet was available, the 4⅞ fl-oz. claret goblet was also used to serve true Cocktails. It is still usefull for those true Cocktails that are a bit too large (with more than the normal amount of bitters or syrup – or with juice accents) for the regular 4½ fl-oz. Cocktail goblet.
The 5½ fl-oz. claret goblet is also useful for Traditional Possets and Blossoms.
