ThoroughbredsSinglesRock-and-Rye

Rock-and-Rye is a classic, American drink from later half of the nineteenth century. Between the dissapearance of true rock candy syrup in the 1890's and prohibition in 1920, this drink did not survive in popularity (not even in speakeasies). It consists of a drink of rye whiskey with some rock candy syrup. The whiskey and syrup are to be mixed by the drinker in the proportions he, or she, prefers. The rye whiskey should not be the ultra-modern supermajority-rye type. It should be Maryland-style (or Pennsylvania-style, if you've got money to burn). The syrup should be true rock candy syrup, or as close to it as possible.
This drink was especially requested during influenza season, as the thick syrup helps the whiskey coat the throat for maximum antiseptic and analgesic effects. It is also simply a good drink and a bit of fun. Long live the culture!
