GROGS

Grogs

Grogs are mixed drinks in which alcoholic products are used to fortify greater amounts of water, or of products composed primarily of water.
The elemental nature of Grogs can be expressed as: STRONG + WEAK.
Sub-genres of Grog include: Straight Grogs, Decoction Grogs, and Charged Grogs
The ancient way of mixing wine, Irish Coffee, Rum & Coke, Scotch & Soda, and many things erroneously called "hot toddy" are all Grogs.

Slings

Slings are mixed drinks in which alcoholic products are sweetenened, mixed with lesser amounts of water, and usually aromatized.
The elemental nature of Slings can be expressed as: AROMATIC + SWEET + STRONG + WEAK.
Sub-genres of Sling include: Traditional Slings, Toddies, Cocktails (a.k.a. Bittered Slings), Juleps, Cobblers, and Cups.
Rum Sling, Brandy Toddy (cold or hot), Whiskey Cocktail (modern or old-fashioned), Manhattan Cocktail, Martini Cocktail, Bourbon Mint Julep, and Pimm's Cup are Slings.

Possets

Possets are mixed drinks in which alcoholic products are thickened, sweetened, and often aromatized.
The elemental nature of Possets can be expressed as: SWEET + STRONG + THICK.
Sub-genres of Posset include: Tradiitonal Possets, Flips (a.k.a. Egg Possets), Eggnogs, and Blows
Brandy Alexander, Sherry Flip, Rum Eggnog, Tom & Jerry, and Haitian Kremasse are Possets.

Punches

Punches are mixed drinks in which sour, sweet, strong, and weak ingredients are balanced. Punches can also contain accents of aromatic ingredients as the fifth element.
The eseential nature of Punches can be expressed as: SOUR + SWEET + STRONG + WEAK
Sub-genres of Punch include: Straight Punches, Decoction Punches, Charged Punches, Milk Punches, Fruit Punches, and Savory Punches.
Rum Punch, Whiskey Sour, Tom Collins, Long Island 'Iced-Tea' [sic], and most 'Tiki' drinks, are Punches.

BLOSSOMS

Blossoms

Blossoms are mixed drinks in which alcoholic products are balanced with succulent juice.
The essential nature of Blossoms can be expressed as: STRONG + SUCCULENT.
There are no subgenres of Blossoms.
The juice-heavy version of the Orange Blossom, Bronx, Brown Derby Blossom, and Blood-and-Sand are all Blossoms. So is the juice-minority version of the Mimosa.

FRUITBALLS

Fruitballs

Fruitballs are mixed drinks in which the strong element is used to fortify a greater amount of the succulent element.
The elemental nature of Fruitballs can be expressed as: STRONG + SUCCULENT.
There are no sub-genres of Fruitballs.
The Screwdriver, Sex-on-the-Beach, Cape Codder, and all such things are Fruitball. So is the juice-majority version of the Mimosa.
